Regular maintenance of the air conditioner's filters, coils, and fins is required for the unit to function effectively and efficiently throughout its lifetime. Dust, debris and mold can quickly build up over time, circulating airborne allergens in the room and causing critical systems in the unit to malfunction. Neglecting necessary maintenance not only leads to an unhealthy indoor environment, but it can also cause a steady decline in the optimal performance and energy efficiency of your unit.

AC units should receive a professional service 3 times a year (every 4 months) to ensure a high level of comfort and proper system operation. Besides being a requirement of the warranty, regular servicing improves the unit’s performance and efficiency and saves money in the long run by reducing the risk of a major break down and increasing the unit’s life span.

All equipment, even the most reliable, needs routine maintenance. Complicated equipment like today’s air conditioners benefit in many ways from regular servicing. There are two types of maintenance, routine maintenance and preventative maintenance.

You can do some routine maintenance yourself, such as cleaning your air flow filter every month to ensure there's always a good air flow to the evaporator coil. Other routine maintenance should be done by a professional service technician, such as cleaning the evaporator and condenser coil fins, the blower wheel and condensate drains.

A well-trained technician will perform these routine tasks as part of a more thorough preventative maintenance service. These include ensuring the compressor has the correct gas pressure and checking for leaks, checking the coolant level and the compressor amps at start up etc.
